Changelog

v1.3.1 (11 Oct 2026)

Quit apps from the search box, and narrow a search to one folder.

• Quit apps from the search box
  • Press ⌘Q on a running app to quit it, or pick Force Quit from the actions list (⌘K)
• Narrow a search to one folder
  • Too many results? Select one and press < to search only in that item’s folder
• File types shown as tags
  • Type .pdf or .md and it is drawn as a tag in the search box, so you can see at a glance what you are filtering by
• Fixes and improvements
  • The panel opens on the display your cursor is on, including with two identical monitors
  • Newly installed and updated apps show up straight away, without restarting FileMinutes
  • The top result is selected as you type, so Enter always opens what you see first

v1.3.0 (10 Sep 2026)

FileMinutes is an application launcher too - open your apps from the same box you search files with.

• Launch your apps, not just your files
  • Apps appear as you type, alongside your files
  • Type the initials or part of the name - vsc finds Visual Studio Code
  • Pick an app to see what it opened recently - the same list as its own Open Recent menu
• Sharper search
  • Names that start with your word come first, and names that merely contain it follow - port leads with the ports, then the reports and exports
  • Files that Spotlight had recorded under a different capitalisation are now found
  • Fixed searches that could come back incomplete when you type quickly
• Better keyboard control
  • Enter opens the first row on the home screen
  • Delete now corrects your query while you are in the results list
• Fixes and improvements

  • Share - send a file to Mail, Messages, AirDrop and more without leaving the keyboard
  • Copy Path (⌘⌥C) and Copy Name (⌘⇧C)

  • Use * as a wildcard, or quotes to search for an exact piece of text
  • Accents are ignored, so resume finds Résumé.pdf
• Easier folder browsing
  • The search box now completes the folder or file name as you type, so you can see what Tab will do
  • Typing a folder name keeps similarly named folders next to it in the list
  • Add a / at the end to look inside a folder
  • Going up a level puts you back on the folder you just left
• Fixes and improvements
